INSURGENT MONTH! Before I get to the article, I have a couple of announcements! We will now start writing book and month reviews, and now we will sometimes have fandom months, such as this one! During a themed month, we will do comparisons to similar fandoms, In-Reviews (past books/movies reviewed again), etc! So, watch out for all Insurgent goodness this month on Fandom Online!

Now, to the review! This article, we will be comparing the popular series
The Hunger Games with the
Divergent series! As you might know, these books are commonly referred together, being trilogies, a lead woman role, a drop of love, deaths, wars, and rebellion.
The Hunger Games series was written by the author Suzanne Collins, and
Divergent was written by Veronica Roth. All six books are great. They're fun and entertaining, but it's time to break things down.
A lot of people claim that
Divergent has copied
The Hunger Games. While this has a ring of truth, it's not entirely true. The first book of THG was published on September 14, 2008. Divergent, the first of Roth's series, was released April 25, 2011. Yes, Divergent is also a young adult fiction book, located in a dystopian society that is narrated by a woman main character, has a lover, and a rebellion and a war happens between two sides, all because of war and destruction that has happened to the same earth before. Yes, it sounds like a copy, but Veronica Roth weaves a tapestry rich in detail, in relation to Suzanne Collins' work. Starting from the beginning, building character, introducing rebels, rebelling, and some deaths at the end of some adored people, they have a similar plot line, but they have twists and ideas of their own. The Hunger Games centers around a game (based on Greek mythology) that is run by a dictatorship government, called the
Capitol. At the head of the government is the villain, President Coriolanus Snow. Every district (there are 13 total, but District 13 is known to be gone of civilization until Mockingjay, "destroyed" from the first war) is to send two tributes, a girl and a boy, every year, and they fight in an arena until one victor remains standing. When Katniss enters the arena, everything changes. A rebellion happens, and at the end of the third book,

President Snow dies, and her beloved sister, Prim dies. Also, everything with games, etc. happened because of previous wars and destruction.
The Divergent book starts off with a girl named Beatrice. This society is based on a faction basis, that you go to according to your mindset. Abnegation for the selfless, Amity for the happy, Candor for the honest, Dauntless for the brave, and Erudite for the smart. The government inside their little society is run by the Abnegation. Erudite finds this unfair, since they're the wise, and they team with the Dauntless to make every single person in the Dauntless faction into mindless killing robots. There are some that can withstand the serum and faction system, though: it's called Divergence. Tris is Divergent, so she is not a mindless robot, killing her previous faction and her parents at the break of morning. Later on, they figure out their society was an experiment by the outer world to cure a "disease" of sorts, and (

the villain, Jeanine Matthews, and the main character Tris dies.
I can't really decide between the two. Both have wars, women main characters, lovers, wars, rebellions, deaths, faction/districts (although some could argue that), etc., but they both have their unique twists. The Hunger Games has well, the games, and Divergent has Divergence. So I'll leave it up to you guys to decide between the two!
